When I first received Reiki back in 2003, I was filled with awe and wonder. I was so happy to have this wonderful gift in my hands and was so sure that everyone else would be too. I ran after people trying to put my hands on them, when they complained of pain or even to stop bleeding. While some people were receptive in a bemused sort of way (what is this crazy chick doing???) many were not. I began to work as a massage therapist during that time and my very second client was having low back pain. I was sure she wanted to get some Reiki so without even asking (a big no-no) I began to channel Reiki into her low back. After a few minutes she said to me, what are you doing? I explained to her that I was using a new energy healing technique to help her back. To which she replied, yeah well stop it!
THUD!!!
It was then I realized that not all people would be in as much love with Reiki as I was. Nor would they be receptive to it. Nor would they necessarily be ready to heal yet. This intrigued me. Why would someone not be ready to heal? I made it my life's focus to find out.
I did a lot of research. I talked to many healers. I read a lot of books. I talked to my clients. I talked to my spirit guides and angels. I talked to myself....a LOT!!
This is a conclusion I came to after years of working on many, many people.
There has to be a payoff in NOT healing. Otherwise, they wouldn't be doing it. They would be healing. Maybe not right away, but over time, they would heal. If they are not healing, they don't really WANT to heal.
Now what do I mean by this?
For some subconscious reason, they are getting something they want out of NOT healing. It might be attention from others, it might be that they have a "good" excuse not to do others things because they have this issue and can't function as a result. They may just like being miserable and want to drag everyone else down with them. I know it sounds outragous to say it but I think in some cases it is true. Obviously these are people who do not want to get Reiki because many times Reiki will force them to confront an issue that they are not yet ready to deal with, or maybe will never be ready in this lifetime.
Some people do want to heal but are just not ready yet. They need to take their own time to be ready and that's OK. I have had people that do not want to get on the table today, but in maybe a month or so they are so fed up with their life that they are ready. Not everyone has to hit rock bottom in order to heal but a lot of people do. They somehow feel they need to have to suffer first or have to tough it out somehow. And many people have a problem asking for help, they think it is a sign of weakness. Quite the opposite, it is a sign of strength. To be able to admit that you need help takes a lot of courage, a lot of people do not want to admit that. I admire people who come to me and say, hey I need help! And then I say, yes I can help you.
Let the healing begin!
